How many shots is the 6 month – 4 year vaccine?

It is a 3-dose vaccine series: Dose 1, then 3-8 weeks later Dose 2, then 8 weeks or later will be the third dose.

Is a booster approved for my child?

On Jan 3, 2022, The FDA expanded Pfizer booster (third shot) for children as young as 12 years old at least 5 months after their second shot. The CDC also recommends a booster at least 5 months after completing the primary series.

Are there eggs in this vaccine?

No, the current Covid-19 vaccines don’t contain egg products or egg culture.

Does this vaccine contain a live virus?

No, none of the authorized Covid-19 vaccines in the United States contain the live virus that causes Covid-19. This means that a Covid-19 vaccine cannot make you sick with Covid.

I’m concerned about long term side effects from the vaccine. Is this a risk?

No non-live virus has ever been shown to cause long term side effects. In fact, the vaccine leaves the body within 72 hours. The only thing that remains long term would be the memory cells and antibodies that are primed and ready to fight off COVID.

Millions of people have received the vaccine with no lingering side effects.

I’d like to know the odds of a bad reaction to the vaccine.

During a six-week period after the shots’ approval (Nov. 3 through Dec. 19, 2021), 8.7 million children received the Covid vaccine. VAERS received 4,249 reports of adverse events after Pfizer vaccination in kids ages 5-11; the majority being a fever. Of the 4,249 adverse effects, only 102 were reported as being serious. The odds of a child 5-11 having a serious adverse reaction to the Covid vaccine is 0.00001172413% (102 in 8.7 million children)

What is VAERS?

VAERS stands for Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

What are these memory cells and antibodies?

It’s the defense in everyone’s bodies. Vaccines put up wanted posters and build up an army (T-lymphocytes as well as B-lymphocytes) that will remember how to fight that virus in the future and pounce on the bad guy as soon as he enters the body.

How effective is the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for 12 years and older?

Based on evidence from clinical trials in people 16 years and older, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed infection with the virus that causes COVID-19.

How effective is the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for 5-11 years and older?

Based on a recent study, children aged 5 to 11 years old after 2 doses of the Pfizer covid vaccine had 12% effectiveness against a Covid-19 infection. This was likely due to the lower dosage they received. Kids in this age group are given two 10-microgram shots, while children aged 12 to 17 receive 30-microgram shots.

Can a flu and Covid vaccine be taken at the same time?

Yes, the flu and COVID shots together did not affect immune responses to either vaccine.
